FANCY
WORDS TO LEARN
Artificial Structure: This
is the kind of map that only makes sense to
the map maker. Everybody else gets lost.
Civilian Maintenance: The kinds of tasks that
are executed by normal people (no magic required).
Confidence: The knowledge that neither heavy traffic
nor 11-year-old hackers will take my business down (today).
Cross-Media Drivers: When an IM
that tells you to look at the funnies because Snoopy is
sending an email to Beetle Bailey about something he should
watch on webTV.
Development Community: The folks who used to be 11-year-old
hackers.
Elegant Construction: A fancy
term for the kind of construction that users cant
see. Wed like to see more of it.
Focus: That quality that has to do with crafting a
marketing message for a defined market (doh.)
Global Transactability: The ability
to buy French pastries from French chefs using French
words and French money.
Information Paths: The minimal
path that avoids the unelected loop.
Media Glue: Consistent (even
if awful) branding in commercials, banners, billboards,
and (yikes) jingles.
Minimal Pathing: Very little
need to deal with convoluted navigation (a straight line).
Unelected Loop: That left
turn that you did not think you made that took you in
a big circle where you ended up looking at the back of
your head.
World Appropriate: Understandable
by non-White, non-American, non-English Speaking, non-Guys
